Moss is a symptom of several things: too much shade, poor drainage, compacted soil, acidic soil. You can help avoid the problem by first raking out the moss and then incorporating some compost to help loosen the soil. It's too late now, but next fall spread some lime over the bed. The lime takes several months to work its way down into the soil and help mellow it so it's not so acidic. Best wishes with your garden!
