The type of fertilizer you need will depend upon which plants you're feeding. For instance, a lawn will appreciate a fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio of NPK, a flower garden will get by with a 10-20-20 or a 20-20-20. There are both liquid and granular fertilizers and of the granular types, some are time release so they dissolve slowly over the entire growing season and some are quickly dissolved and give faster results but you need to feed more often. Wish I could be more specific, but you didn't mention whether you want to fertilize a garden or a lawn. But, I hope this information is helpful.
