Crepe myrtles develop flowers on the new growth of the season so wait until you see signs of life and prune your plant back by a few inches to a foot. New growth will flower and when the flowers are spent, prune it back a second time. This will help the plant thicken and become more dense. It will also encourage a second flush of blooms later in the season. When those flowers are spent, you can prune away any dead berries which will keep the plant looking neat and tidy. Enjoy your garden.
