I live in coastal SC, even though it has been cold, weeds are actively growing in the flower beds. What is the best way to get rid of them and stop new ones from forming?

Now's the time to pull those nasty weeds! Once you've gotten rid of them, apply a pre-emergent herbicide to keep future weeds from sprouting. Corn gluten based pre-emergents are environmentally friendly and do a good job at keeping weeds at bay. Preen, Manage, Barricade, Gallery, Nature?s Green, Tupersan, Corn Weed Blocker, Weed Ban, Dyna weed, Concern, Barricade, and Dimension are a few of the products you'll find in your local garden center.
