My onion sprouts are laying down instead of standing up. I have not added any water (until today and I misted lightly with a squirt bottle) since I started them. I planted the seeds in a seed starting peat mix and everything else seems to be doing well except my onions. What did I do wrong and can I save my plants?

Sounds like your new plants need more light - or the temperatures are too high. Onions like to start out in cool temperatures so if they are in a very warm room or under hot lights, they are showing their unhappiness. If the temperatures are below 70f, it could be that they need more intense light. I use regular fluorescent shop lights. They are a cool source of bright light. Keep the bulbs 3-4 inches above the tops of the plants and keep the lights on 12-14 hours a day. Best wishes with your onions!
