|I'd be inclined to purchase the vegetable starts as soon as they are available in the nursery. This way you'll be getting healthy new plants. If you wait for a sale, the plants can be stressed because they've been in containers for an extended length of time and may not be quite so healthy and vigorous. It's been my experience that stressed transplants don't do as well as fresh, healthy ones. They do eventually go on sale, but usually towards the end of the season. I'd purchase the newer transplants. You can usually save money by purchasing the little six-pacs of plants rather than the larger transplants. Best wishes with your garden!
