I have a large yard with several planting beds. I'd like to reduce the maintenance on the property by adding plantings with minimal upkeep to the existing beds. Which shrubs/pants would be best. I need suggestions for both shade and sunny locations.

Some fairly low maintenance perennials include Peony (Paeonia), Siberian Iris (Iris sibirica), Daylily (Hemerocallis), Bulb lily (Lilium), Black eyed Susan (Rudbeckia "Goldsturm"), Bee Balm, and Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea). As for shrubs, consider lilacs, hydrangea, knock out roses, and New Jersey Tea. You'll find lots of other potential candidates at your local garden center. Best wishes with your new gardens!
