If you used pressure treated wood for your garden, leave the bottom alone but do line the sides with plastic so the chemicals from the wood won't leach into the soil. Fill the bed with a 75/25 ratio of garden soil and compost. Be sure to mix it all together well. The compost will help the bed drain quickly but will also hold moisture for the roots of the plants. There are vegetable garden fertilizers that will work just fine around all your veggies. Apply in amounts as recommended on the label. After you've planted your vegetables, cover over the bare soil between the plants with a thick layer of mulch or with several thicknesses of newspaper to help suppress weeds. Enjoy your new garden!
