| I planted them in August 2009. They were fine, but I notice they look like they are dying. They have dried leaves on the top, a few colorful leaves on the bottom. Is this normal?

|What you describe sounds like winter damage or sun scald, especially since only the tops of the plants are affected. I'd prune away all the dead and damaged plant parts this spring. Healthy new growth should cover up all the pruning cuts and your plants will look healthy again.
