|What you can do depends upon the size of the trunk. In a very small tree sometimes just wrapping the trunk with flexible garden tape will protect it and allow it to heal over on its own. If the trunk is very thick, you can actually drill through the trunk and pin it together with long bolts with washers and nuts attached. The tree will eventually grow around and over the bolts. Hope this information helps!
