|Seeding a new lawn is the most economical approach but sodding will provide you with an instant lawn that's thick, has an established root system and is weed free. Either way, soil preparation is essential to the future health of your lawn. Start by removing existing vegetation and raking to remove debris and large stones. Level the area with a slight slope away from your house so the water drains away safely. Then lay your sod or broadcast your seeds. Good luck with your new lawn!
