I know that you need to remove spent blooms but should I have pruned them like I would my hostas in late fall?

You can prune your anise hyssop down to about 6" above ground level this spring. Light pruning all season will promote branching and additional blooms. In the fall, after frost nips the tops of the plants you can prune them down to a few inches above the ground and mulch over the top of the soil to protect the roots. Enjoy!
