I live in South Carolina and have a patio that I would like plantings around for some privacy. Some type of fast growing hedge. We have mucky soil here (myrtle beach) that never seems to dry but always stays damp. We have lugustroms(sp?) and are looking to replace them. My husband saw something he thinks is called Japanese Privey(saw it H.D. store).any suggestions?

Japanese Privet (Ligustrum Japonicum) is a Ligustrum so what your husband saw may have been a different variety than what you are currently growing. You might consider 'Savannah' holly, 'Dragon Lady' and 'Carolina Sentinal' hollies. All are tall, narrow hollies suitable for areas where plant width is a consideration. Wax myrtle is also a good shrub for your region and your soil.
