When can I put down grass seed in my Virginia Beach yard? Do I need to wait for a particular day or nighttime temp -- high or low? Thanks.

In general, late March and early April are the best times to seed a new lawn in Virginia Beach. Grass seeds will germinate in soil temperatures of about 40F but they take quite a long time to grow and establish. Seeds sown when air and soil temperatures are warm will germinate in about 7 days. I'd wait until the last week of March or the first week of April to seed. The grass should be up and growing well by mid-April and have time to establish before summer weather arrives.
