|There are degrees of sun and shade in a garden and defining them can be a little tricky. But for the most part, a sunny bed is one that receives at least 8 hours of direct sunshine each day. A partly sunny bed will get about 4 hours of sun - either morning sun and afternoon shade, or morning shade and afternoon sun. Morning sun is not as intense as afternoon sun so delicate or tender plants will do best in morning sun and afternoon shade. Hope this clarifies things for you.
