I live in central Illinois. I am buying a new house within the next couple months. My question is: If I get the house in April, will it be too late to plant seed for grass. I want an amazing yard and the house I'm looking at needs some work. Can I plant seed that late, or should I just try to bring back whatever they have this season, and wait till next season to plant?

April should be just fine for seeding a new lawn. Grass seeds will germinate in temperatures as low as 40F but germinate faster in temperatures of 70-75 degrees. As long as you keep the seeds moist, they should pop up in about a week if planted in April. Best wishes with your new landscape.
