When is the right time for pruning a fig tree. It's very big and an older trees. Produce good figs. Because it's so big and wide,is it okay to trim back some of the wider branches.

It's okay to trim your fig tree and now is the best time to do it. You can completely remove some of the branches if they are overcrowded, crossing and rubbing, and you can cut back the rest of the branches by one third. Prune now while it is dormant and it will respond with lots of new growth when the weather warms this spring.
