Annuals live for only one growing season so they need to be planted every year. Some annuals self-sow which means they spill seeds on the ground and these seeds can sprout the following year and produce new plants. Some annuals will grow in sun and some in shade so you'll need to read the plant tag or seed package to see what exposure is best for them.
