Most perennials have a preference for either sunny garden spots or shady garden spots. The plant tags should indicate the sun exposure for each plant you've purchased. Prior to planting, I'd work some compost or other organic matter into the soil to help it drain well. As long as you plant them in well draining soils and give them the proper exposure to sunshine, your perennials should be happy.
