I can't tell from your question whether you are starting avocado trees from pits or if you are planting trees from nursery containers. If you're starting the pits, they should be started in water and transplanted outdoors when they are about 2' tall. I start mine by pushing 3 toothpicks into the pit and suspending half the pit in water (pointy side up). It should root and sprout within 3 weeks. If you're planting nursery grown trees, they need full sunshine and well draining soils. Hope this answers your question.
