| I have a trumpet vine which I started three years ago. The vine looks great and is growing well but I have yet to see any flowers. Do I need to simply wait? |
| Trumpet vine (Campsis radicans) is generally a rampant grower and in my experience can bloom the first year from seed if started early enough. This vine does best in a reasonably fertile soil in full sun and, although it is hardy to at least -20 degrees, it seems to prefer a location just as hot and sunny as you can provide in cooler zones such as yours. It blooms on new wood, so you might try pruning it back quite hard in early spring to encourage lots of new growth the following summer. By the same token, if you prune it in summer you will be removing the blooming wood. Good luck with your trumpet vine! |
