I have a Scotts drop spreader, and I'm wondering if the walking speed has an effect on the amount of material dropped

Good question! Normal walking pace, either slow or fast, won't have any effect because the spreader works by tracking the wheels as they turn and releasing specific amounts as the wheels turn. Now if you decided to jog across the yard rather than walk, the fertilizer may not come out as fast as it should which would result in less product on your lawn. I don't recommend jogging or running while pushing a spreader, though.
