What kind of root system does Hill Hardy Lavender have? Want to move one. |
The roots should be directly under the plant, about 12" deep and extending out to the ends of the branches. Start digging all around the outside of the plant, then down and in towards the center. It's okay to sever some of the smaller roots but try to keep the majority of the root mass together. I find it easier to dig in moist soil so water the lavender throughly the day before the move and digging will be a little easier. Plus, moist soil holds the roots together, making the move less traumatic for the plant. Good luck with the move. |
