I am about to start a home farm and would like to build a garden bed. What type of lumber should I ask for at Home Depot?

For the longest life, use redwood, cedar or cypress. These are harder woods and have a longer life than softer woods such as hemlock and pine. If you're growing vegetables in the bed and want to treat the wood for even longer life, use linseed oil as a preservative. If the bed is for ornamentals rather than veggies you can use pressure treated lumber.
