I have a sloped area where I would love to put step beds leading down to a small creek Lots of skunk cabbage. How do you get rid of it without harming water supply and wildlife.

Everything I've read has the same message - Skunk cabbage, once established, is almost impossible to eradicate, surviving up to a century or more in the same area. The roots are large and often grow deeply in the ground. You can certainly try to dig it out, though, and I hope you'll be successful.
