Do I need to make little trenches in rows in my 8x8 planter or can I just plant things in rows? I have a drip line that is connected to a single sprayer in the middle or do I need the porous tubes in the trenches?

You don't need to make little trenches unless you plan to water by flooding the trenches. Sounds like your drip system will be just fine for your plants and as long as it reaches all the corners of the planter, your plants should be happy. Just plant in rows or checkerboard fashion and keep the sprinkler on long enough to thoroughly soak the soil once each week (twice if the weather gets really hot).
