We have good old Virginia Clay and just can not grow grass, not to mention we have two dogs. We decided to try using ground cover instead of grass. What kind of ground cover would work best with the clay dirt and 2 small dogs running around in the yard? By the way, we live in a town house, so a little goes a long way! Thanks!

I suggest a goundcover called Sweetbox. It is evergreen and has wonderfully fragrant flowers early in the spring. The latin name is Sarcococa hookerana and the variety is called humilis. Be sure to purchase the dwarf variety - otherwise you'll get a 4-6 foot shrub. I'm sure the doggies will like it too...but in a good way.
