I have noticed perfectly round holes drilled into my soil about the size of a quarter, some which are quite deep. Can you tell me what is doing this and if it is a threat to my garden? Thank you

Crickets, cockroaches, grubs, grasshoppers or beetles can cause the holes you describe but I'm not sure which it might be so I don't know what to suggest. A general purpose lawn insecticide might help but it sounds as though whatever it was has already emerged. Hmmm... be on the lookout for plant damage. If you find a population of insect pests, that's probably who was spending the winter in the ground. Good luck with your landscape!
