am new to planting anything. i live in an apartment complex and my balcony is exposed to sunlight a lot. what type of plants do you suggest i grow in pots. i live in baltimore. i will like plants that require minimal maintainance and can grow back the next year without me doing much. what is your take on me doing roses?

There are lots of plants that are suitable for growing in containers, including roses. The problem you'll face is that the roots will be exposed to cold winter temperatures which can kill them over the winter months. Unless there is a protected place to put the containers during the winter months, you might want to stick with annuals that you replace every spring. Here are some sun lovers for you to try:

Hellebores; Hemerocallis spp. ?
