We put down sod last summer. It is now spring and I am wondering if it is a good time to aerate or how long should we wait?

Aerating a lawn is something we recommend when foot traffic has compacted the soil - usually 3-4 years after installing the lawn. I'm not sure why you want to aerate your new sod? If you're convinced the soil is compacted and needs to be aerated, spring is a good time for the process. If you want to aerate just because it's something your neighbors are doing or because you think it's part of the annual maintenance of a lawn, I'd council you to wait for a few years before aerating.
