trying to find out if these plants can tolerate poor drainage area and if they are deer resistent. thanks for your answer.

Neither are on the list of deer resistant plants and neither will tolerate areas of poor drainage. I'm afraid root rot will kill them both. Abies balsamea (Balsam Fir)Populus tremuloides (Quaking Aspen), Acer rubrum (Red Maple), and Liquidambar (Sweet Gum) are tolerant of poor drainage. Hope this helps as you plan your landscape.
