|Late winter or early spring are the best times for pruning. If they are overgrown you can start by removing a few of the oldest canes in the center of plant plant and leaving the rest. Once the center of the plant is open you can reduce the size by about one third. I'd prune out the canes with the bark that is falling off and concentrate on keeping the younger canes less crowded and healthy. Good luck with your blueberries.
