Are these good for killing slugs and what happens to them when all the slugs are gone? Are they harmful in anyway to the soil or plants? Will they die off in winter?

Research shows that slugs seem to avoid earth treated with nematodes, but the treatment lasts only about 6 weeks so you'll have to repeat the treatment. Nematodes are not harmful to the soil and yes, they do die out, especially in the winter.
