Ferula assa-foetida is also known as Asafetida (or Asafoetida), sometimes referred to as an exotic spice in Middle Eastern cooking. It's actually the ground roots of the giant fennel plant. Fennel seeds are available from: Shepherd's Garden Seeds, 30 Irene St., Torrington, CT 06790-6658.
