Your average last frost date isn't until late May so I think it's too early to apply a pre-emergent to your lawn. Crabgrass won't start germinating until soil temperatures are 50 to 55 degrees F for ten or more days and germination can take place over a 6 week period. The compound prevents the weed seed from germinating, but it will not kill the newly sprouted seedlings. Watch the weather - late April to early May is an ideal time to apply pre-emergence control in your region. When your lawn starts greening up in the spring you can turn on your sprinkler system. Best wishes with your lawn.
