| It's the end of September and I just planted pansies to enjoy for the fall/winter season. My problem is that the plants seem to be getting leggy due to the heat we've been experiencing here (85-95 degrees). Is there something I can do to preserve the plants so that they become bushy and not leggy? |
| You can pinch back the growing tips of your pansy plants to keep them compact (or to force them to become compact). Warm weather, or insufficient light, will encourage leggy growth. Keep them pinched back to encourage new leaf growth at the base of the plants. Stop pinching when the weather cools so they can develop flower buds. When flowers are spent, pinch back the flower and part of the stem to keep the plants compact, and to encourage additional blooms. |
