is it o.k to plant perennials now, or should i wait till the end of may?

If you plant now you'll need to be on the alert for a sudden freeze and plan to run out and cover your new plants overnight to protect them. I think it would be safer to wait until all threat of frost is over for the season and plant them towards the end of May. I'm sure you're anxious to get out into the garden, though, so you'll have to decide whether you're willing and able to provide protection this early in the season. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a fabulous garden!
