The only way to avoid tomato or potato blight is to rotate your crops. If you've had problems with these diseases in the past you'll need to grow your tomatoes and potatoes in different garden beds. The pathogens in the soil now will die out if they don't have plants to attack. You can safely plant other crops that are not susceptible to these pathogens. Grow corn, peas, beans or lettuce in the garden this year and try growing your tomatoes in containers rather than in the garden soil. Hope this helps!
