Mulching over bare garden space in winter will reduce chickweed problems in the spring. Aside from pulling it out before it flowers and sets seeds, there's not much to recommend. The herbicides that kill chickweed are broadleaf weed killers and will kill your perennials, as well. I'd pull the weeds and then apply a thick mulch over the soil between the perennials. Mulch will block sunlight which will keep the chickweed seeds from sprouting. Wish there were an alternative.
