I am trying to replace black mulch with with grass. How do I do this? I have raked and racjed and put grass seed on top and nothing. This is for out house in Magolia Texas. thank you! |
If the black plastic was in place for a few years, the soil beneath it didn't get any rainfall or fresh air which probably sterilized it. I'm sure it's compacted, as well. The best way to revive the soil is to dig or rototill it up to help loosen it, add some compost or other organic matter to help it hold moisture and release nutrients. Once you've mixed the organic matter in, level the area and overseed. If you don't dig or till the soil, it won't make a very hospitable environment for the roots of your lawn and the grass will die out quickly. Grass seeds need to be kept moist until they sprout (usually 7-10 days) so be sure to keep the area watered after sowing the seeds. Hope this information helps you grow a green, green lawn. |
