My boyfriend bought me a pot lily 'Monalisa'. I cannot find any information about it in my gardening/houseplant books or on your site. I would like to know how to care for it. Is it a houseplant or should it go in the garden? How often does it flower? It currently has 3 large white flowers (inner pink) with a strong scent (very pleasant).
Any help would be appreciated!

There are two plants that are commonly called 'Mona Lisa Lily'. One is a lily-flowered tulip, but it produces a single bloom. Since your plant has multiple blooms, it's probably Alstromeria pulchella 'Mona Lisa'. This is sometimes called 'Peruvian Lily'. Alstromeria are perennial plants but the tops die down after they finish blooming and will resprout again in the spring, followed by new flowering stems. Alstroemeria grow best outdoors in full sun, planted in moist, deep, sandy soil. Set the roots 6-8 inches deep and mulch with organic matter to help protect them over the winter months. In the springtime new leaves will grow.
