I am new a trying to care for a yard. I visited Home Depot and they told me to spread grass seed and starter fertilizer in late March. Done. Now, do I spread weed & feed? More fertilizer? I have TONS of weeds and need something to help, but not kill the grass I'm trying to grow. Is this possible? Basically, I'm asking what I need to do next to try to get a healthy lawn going.

Once the new grass is up and growing and you have mowed it 2-3 times it will be sturdy enough for an application of weed and feed. There are several brands available but not all are suitable for all types of turfgrasses so you'll need to read the label to make sure it's safe to use on your particular turf type. If you don't know what the grass type is, take a small sample into your local Home Depot garden center for help. After you've applied the weed and feed you'll want to mow and water your lawn on a regular schedule. In general, plan to feed in April, June, September and late November. If you do you'll have a thick, lush lawn that will crowd out new weeds. Best wishes with your lawn!
