I'd start by raking out the dead patches and overseeding. If you're not sure what type of turf you have, dig out a small sample and take it to your garden center. Helpful folks there can identify the grass and recommend a grass seed that will match it. Once you've overseeding, water regularly and mow as often as necessary to keep the lawn looking even. You can feed your lawn about 3 weeks after you have overseeded. Everything should green up and even out it terms of color and growth with regular watering and mowing. Best wishes with your lawn!
