Is it too late to plant Bleeding Hearts and Astilbe on the eastern end of Long Island? (mid Oct.)

It's a bit late but you can still plant until the ground freezes. Use a nice layer of mulch and water them in well. However, be sure to check them for frost heaving this winter, especially if they are small plants. (If they do heave, don't panic, just smush them back into the soil as best you can.)
