|Dogwoods are understory trees. They much prefer to be planted near other trees that will give them some shelter from hot afternoon sunshine. They also appreciate the leaf litter that falls from other trees - it helps to keep the soil cool and moist. Try to find a spot that's protected from hot afternoon sunshine and a dogwood will grow well for you.
