Hi, I was told not to really use pesticides on herbs like Basil, Rosemary, Mint etc. Are there any steps I can take to keep the bugs from biting the leaves?

Most plants can tolerate some insect feeding and the safest method of control is to simply hose off the pests or handpick them. If you want to resort to chemical controls, you can control persistent infestations with a solution of insecticidal soap or a pyrethrum-base insecticide, both of which are safe for food crops when used according to label directions.
