Even if you deliberately planted a single grass type, native grasses will show up in 3-4 years. Wind blows the seed in and birds do their share of seed planting, too. As long as you regularly mow your lawn the height of all the grasses will be the same. Ample water and regular fertilizing will help, as well. If you don't want all those different types of grasses in your lawn you can systematically dig them out and overseed the bare areas with the desired grass seed. Or, you can rototill it up and start all over. But, in a few years the native grasses will return. Wish there were an easy solution!
