We have ferterlizer that we don't know what it's good for. It is 10-10-10. Can I use it on my lawn where we have brownspots as a result of our dog going to the bathroom?

10-10-10 is a balanced general purpose fertilizer and is suitable for using in a flower bed or vegetable garden. Lawn fertilizers have a different formula. Look for a 3-1-2 ratio of NPK such as a 21-7-14 for your turfgrass. Dog spots are caused by an excessive amount of urea which burns the grass, roots and all. To help new grass grow, dig out the dead grass along with the roots, spread some compost over the area and dig it in, then broadcast your grass seeds over the amended soil.
