What caused us to have tomato hornworms on our tomato plants last summer? We have been gardening for years and have never experienced these creatures before. They seemed to really enjoy feasting on the Brandywine' tomato plants which were new to our garden. Any connection? Donald Trimarchi dtrim@bcn.net

Tomato Hornworms are a pest mostly in warmer areas such as the South. They can devastate a tomato crop quickly as they have great appetites. You might have noticed them last year due to warmer weather for you? Hand picking them is the best control forthese unless you get lots of them, then spray Bt, a bacterial spray on the plants. Bt is safe for humans and animals and only kills specific caterpillars pests..
