I reside in High Point,North Carolina, and I have noticed a lavendar/purple flower-like ground covering in bloom. What is the name of this flower? Is it a perennial? How long is it in bloom? When is the best time to plant it? As it grows, does it spread?

Since I can't see the plant I'm only guessing, but if it is flowering now, I think it is Ajuga (Ajuga reptans). Ajuga has a low growth habit with glossy leaves and in the springtime it produces spikes of lavender/purple flowers. It is an excellent ground cover for sun or shade. It's an evergreen perennial and can be planted in the spring. Hope this it the plant in question.
